Interview with our employees

We at Marine Hybrid Solutions (MHS) are pleased to share an interview with our employees. What motivates them? How do they experience their daily work? Is MHS as flexible and innovative as we claim to be?

"Reducing emissions is essential to continuing to enjoy this planet as much as we do. Being more efficient with the energy we use is essential to maintaining our quality of life. At MHS, we are developing tools that allow us to be smarter on the water and that initiative will never become obsolete." Seán Mac an Bháird

Recruitment and development

The motivation for a startup

Starting a startup requires dedication and strong motivation. For Markus and Seán, this motivation was based on unique opportunities.

Markus: "Being part of a startup from the beginning seemed like something that could be an invaluable experience."

Seán: “It’s exciting to be involved in the start-up phase of a company developing new technology. It’s a fantastic challenge to stretch myself as a project manager. It also aligns with my values to work for a company that focuses on efficiency and improving the world we live in by working towards a carbon-free future.”

Interesting and challenging tasks

The tasks in a startup are often both interesting and challenging. Thea has found a lot of value in being part of this dynamic process.

Thea: "Until now, we have focused on building the company from the ground up. This has created many interesting and challenging tasks. I have learned the importance of careful and thorough work while still having room to explore and be creative."

An open working environment

An open working environment is essential for creativity and collaboration. Thea, Markus and Seán all have positive experiences with the working environment at MHS:

Thea: "I would describe the work environment as open, honest and warm."

Markus: "My impression so far is a pleasant, open and focused working environment."

Seán: “I find our working life to be bubbly, flexible and collaborative.”

Sharing thoughts and ideas

Open dialogue and sharing of ideas are essential in an innovative environment, and Seán values both of these aspects of the work culture.

Seán: “I value being able to share ideas and thoughts with my colleagues. It’s always nice that we have our doors open to each other and encourage dialogue.”

About contributing to the company's overarching goals

The motivation in their daily work is linked to the company's overall goals. Thea and Seán both find inspiration in contributing to the company's success.

Thea: “Good colleagues and our overall goal of providing better and more energy-efficient solutions for ships is something that really motivates me.”

Seán: “As a project manager, I oversee the ongoing projects as we develop our technology. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from the electrification and hybridization of ships and pass that experience on to the team.”

Balancing work and leisure

A healthy work-life balance is important for well-being and productivity, and Markus and Seán have found ways to achieve this balance.

Markus: "I have two days of home office a week, which allows me a slightly more flexible work day, which helps a lot with reducing stress."

Seán: “It’s always a challenge to balance life and work. It’s about the culture of maintaining a healthy balance, and I feel like the attitude within the company is conducive to taking time for myself.”

Development of knowledge and skills

Continuous professional development is essential in an innovative company. Thea and Seán have both experienced professional growth.

Thea: "I have learned to be even more careful than I was before. I have also observed how the company is managed in a different way than I have experienced in other companies, which I find very interesting and educational."

Seán: “My understanding of marine electric and hybrid powertrain solutions has deepened significantly. I touched on them at university, but working on it primarily now has given me new insights.”

How we will contribute to the green transition

Sustainability is a core value at MHS, and employees actively contribute to this goal. Thea and Seán are both dedicated to the company's sustainability initiatives.

Thea: "Making ship systems more efficient and improving information flow on ships, which contributes to lower emissions, is something that is positive for the green shift."

Seán: “Reducing emissions is essential to continue enjoying this planet as much as we do. Being more efficient with the energy we use is essential to maintaining our quality of life. At MHS, we develop tools that allow us to be smarter on the water and that initiative will never become obsolete.”
